IMPORTANT UPDATE! Following the tragic event in Lewiston, a number of downtowns are postponing their Halloween festivities. We’ll attempt to make the corrections below but please make sure to check the links provided for the latest update.

“Trick or Treat” On Water Street (CANCELED)

The largest trunk or treat in Central Maine! oin us downtown Augusta for a fun, safe Halloween!

Trick or treat to all the stores, restaurants, businesses and booths set up on Water Street — and then go out with your friends/family to enjoy a night out in downtown Augusta!
We will have over 40 vendors, food trucks, games and activities for kids, and LIVE MUSIC by Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations! We also have LIVE DANCE performances at 6pm and 7pm from Merkaba Sol Witches’ Dance Crew and “Haunted” storefronts to explore!

Belfast’s Great Pumpkin Pageant (Belfast, ME)

Belfast’s Great Pumpkin Pageant is joining forces with the Waldo County YMCA’s Trunk or Treat event for one-stop Halloween hoopla!
Want to enter a decorated pumpkin? Here’s how:
Get a pumpkin! Johnny’s Seeds is donating over 100 pumpkins for entrants. Visit our pumpkin patch (at Waterfall Arts) after October 18 to get yours! Limit one pumpkin per artist, please. While supplies last!
Decorate however you like! Carve it, paint it, glue to it, dress it… be creative! Note – if you carve it too soon (and it gets warm) your jack-o-lantern may be pretty soft and yucky by the time the pageant rolls around!
Bring your pumpkin to the Waldo County YMCA on before Trunk or Treat – between 12PM-3PM Sunday. Put contact info on your pumpkin!
Invite everyone you know to check out the pumpkins and vote on Sunday at the YMCA during TRUNK OR TREAT, 3pm-5pm.
Pick up your pumpkin before 7PM at the Y.

Get in the spirit to float, fly, or crawl to the taproom for tricks, treats, and spooky fun punctuated by performances from Queens, Letta Dicken, Mama Martini, and Raya Sunshine (with a special surprise from the crew at City Theater!)

Biddeford Haunts and Curiosities Walking Tour 2023

The air is crisp…vibrant leaves scatter across the ground…and tales of the strange & spectral are in the air…

Once again, Briar & Bone brings you the Biddeford Haunts & Curiosities guided walking tour. Join our historian for a tour through downtown Biddeford, where you’ll hear stories of ghosts, folklore, and curious activities, taken from Biddeford’s own captivating history, all while viewing the very places where the stories occurred.

Tours begin at 6pm at Briar & Bone, southern Maine’s own cabinet of curiosities gift shop. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, and ends in our gallery, where we will serve warm cider and snacks to help chase away the chill.

Tours are limited to 16 guests per evening, and sell out quickly.

Halloween in Brunswick, Maine

Halloween Pumpkin Decorating

Saturday, October 21st on the Lower Mall

Come celebrate the Halloween season by decorating a pumpkin and enjoying some pizza with the Brunswick Parks and Rec Department! This program will give kids a chance to decorate their very own 6” pumpkin and participants will then be able to take their pumpkin home for families and neighbors to enjoy. Pumpkins as well as all decorating materials will be supplied. Water and pizza will be available for all participants too! Whether you choose to make your pumpkin spooky or cute you’ll be able to show off your creativity with this festive fall program! Two sessions are available from 10:00am-11:00am and 11:00am-12pm. The cost for this program is $10 for Brunswick Residents and $13 for Non-residents. Pre-registration for this event is required and early registration is highly encouraged!

Family Halloween Window Painting

Sunday, October 22nd all along Maine Street

Show off your creativity with this Fall-themed window painting event designed for families! After making a preliminary Autumn or Halloween-themed sketch and having your sketch approved at the Recreation Department, your family may select a storefront window from the available list at the Recreation Center to paint! Paints and brushes will be provided on the day of the event. Don’t delay, since there are a limited number of windows available! The cost for this program is $20 for Brunswick Residents and $27 for Non-residents. Pre-registration for this event is required and early registration is highly encouraged!

Slip into your scariest, funniest, most outrageous costume and join in the Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department’s Virtual Halloween Costume Contest on Tuesday, October 31st Online via social media Hashtag and Our Department Email! Post your picture on social media using #Brunswickmeparksandrec or send your picture to . Don’t forget to include the name of the costume, the name of the person/animal/family in the picture, and the category you are competing in so we can correctly identify you and that’s all there is to it! 

We will be awarding a prize from Frosty’s Donuts to one winner in each of the following age categories:

Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, Family, and Pet(s)

The Annual Halloween Parade and Tent or Treat on the Mall

We are excited to offer everyone’s favorite, FREE Halloween Parade once again followed by a popular event with a twist— Tent or Treat! Slip into your scariest, funniest, most outrageous costume and join in the Annual Halloween Parade where individuals of all ages are invited to “Monster March” down Maine Street. The parade will be held on Tuesday, October 31st at 4:30 p.m., starting on the Mall in downtown Brunswick, 191 Maine Street, Brunswick, ME 04011. 

Event Timeline:

4:15pm – Gather on the Mall by the Gazebo

4:30pm – Parade Starts

5:00pm – Parade Returns to Mall

5:05pm – Tent or Treat & Photo Booth Zone on Mall

6:15pm – Event Ends

Individuals marching in the parade need to assemble on the Mall by 4:15 p.m. to be lined up. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. There is no age requirement to participate in the parade, but parents are encouraged to march with their children.  Brunswick’s Parks & Recreation, Police and Fire Departments will join forces to provide safe escort and traffic control. 

The parade will start at the Mall on the Park Row side and move down Maine Street, making a right turn onto Bank Street, a right turn onto Federal Street, then a right onto School Street and the parade will end back at the Mall. Immediately following the parade, at approximately 5:05pm, children are invited to participate in the Tent or Treat event where local organizations and volunteers will be handing out candy from decorated tents on the Mall. There will also be a Photo Booth Zone for families to take pictures for the virtual costume contest with fun, spooky, Halloween theme backdrops!

Downtown Gardiner Trick-or-Treat! (Gardiner, ME) – CANCELED

From the Gardiner Public Library to the A1 Diner you will find many of of our downtown businesses handing out treats of all kinds!

Watch a performance in the street from Ampersand Academy of Arts.

THE ONE WAY SECTION OF WATER STREET WILL BE CLOSED to vehicles from Bridge St. to Church St. from 3pm to 5pm only.

Participating businesses will receive an orange pumpkin printout to place in a window near their front door.

Halloween on Main Street is back! This event will be happening on Friday between 4:30pm and 6:00pm in the downtown. Somethings for people to be aware of:
  • Main Street will be CLOSED from 4:20pm to 6:00pm between Spring Street and Bridge Street. Expect significant delays in this area during that time, and also on William Clarke Drive.
  • There will be NO PARKING on Main Street between Spring Street and Bridge Street. Vehicles parked there may be ticketed and towed.
  • If you are parked in the Vallee Square Parking Lot, Riverview Parking Lot, or Ash Street parking lot between the hours of 4:20pm and 6:00pm, you will not be able to get out. So please plan accordingly.
  • People driving to the event should park in either of the Church Street parking lots or the temporary parking lot at Saccarappa Park.
