Nestled near the heart of downtown Brunswick, Maine, Maine State Music Theatre has become one of Maine’s leading destinations for live musical theater and performing arts. Located on the scenic Bowdoin College campus inside the historic Pickard Theater, this celebrated summer theater company draws audiences from across Maine and beyond with its energetic productions, talented casts, and Broadway-style performances.
For decades, MSMT has been entertaining residents and visitors with a dynamic lineup of musicals, concerts, and special performances during the summer season. Professional actors, musicians, and creative teams from New York City and regional theaters bring nationally recognized productions to the Midcoast, creating an unforgettable theater experience in a welcoming Maine setting.

MAINE STATE MUSIC THEATER - MAINSTAGE MUSICALS IN 2026
JUNE 3 - 20, 2026 | HAIRSPRAY
Big hair. Bigger dreams. Welcome to the ’60s! It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and Tracy Turnblad has a big heart, even bigger hair, and one big dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When her once-in-a-lifetime shot turns into a chance to stand up for what’s right, Tracy becomes an unlikely heroine on a mission to integrate the airwaves and bring people together—with plenty of rhythm, soul, and style. Packed with infectious songs and outrageous fun, Hairspray is a celebration of self-love, social change, and the power of dance to shake things up.
JUNE 24 - JULY 11, 2026 | 1776
Let freedom sing. Before there was a nation, there was a room full of arguments. In this stirring and surprisingly humorous musical, the Founding Fathers come to life as real, flawed, passionate individuals, clashing over independence, ideals, and the shape of a new country. With soaring songs and sharp dialogue, 1776 offers a powerful reminder that democracy is messy—and worth it. A fresh look at the birth of America that feels urgently relevant today.
JULY 15 - AUGUST 1, 2026 | FROZEN
The cold never bothered us anyway. Enter a world of icy magic, heartfelt adventure, and the bond of two sisters who must discover the strength within—and in each other. Based on the beloved Disney film, Frozen brings Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and all your favorites to life on stage with stunning visuals, showstopping songs like “Let It Go,” and dazzling theatrical surprises. Whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or all over again, Frozen is a spellbinding celebration of love, courage, and letting go.
AUGUST 5 - 22, 2026 | COME FROM AWAY
Kindness takes center stage. On September 11, 2001, 38 planes were grounded in a small town in Newfoundland. What happened next was a remarkable true story of generosity, resilience, and unexpected connection. Come From Away is a heartwarming, foot-stomping musical that captures the best of humanity in the darkest of times. With a pulsing folk-rock score and a cast of unforgettable characters, this Tony Award-winning hit reminds us that kindness can be its own act of heroism.
