Description

River Fest is Skowhegan's annual multi-day celebration of recreation and life on the Kennebec.

River Fest returns August 4, 2022 with new and oldie-but-goodies activities for the whole family! Celebrate Skowhegan's history and future by checking out this year's schedule of events! Run of River will include a whitewater park with three wave features; terraced seating; a four-season, non-motorized trail system; a riverfront promenade; and pristine fishing waters with improved fish habitat.

When: River Fest 2022 is scheduled for August 4-7.

Designed to showcase the potential of the Kennebec River Gorge as the future home of Run of River, River Fest is Skowhegan's annual multi-day celebration of recreation and life on the Kennebec.

Skowhegan Rotary Club Lobster Bake (Curbside Pickup)

11 a.m.-8 p.m., Municipal Parking Lot
Join the Rotary Club for the annual lobster bake! Pre-order, pre-pay, and pre-schedule your pick-up time! Must complete your purchase by July 30th. $17/single lobster meal or $27/double lobster meal. Each dinner includes corn on the cob, roll, butter, and a Bankery cookie. When you purchase your meals online, you will select the 1-hour time block to pick up your lobsters curbside.

Drivers and Duffers Golf Classic

1 p.m., Lakewood Golf Course
This golf classic is put on by the Skowhegan Regional Chamber of Commerce. Registration includes one round of 18 holes, one ticket for a lobster dinner, and one player’s portion of a cart.

Move More Kids Fun Run 5K

8 a.m., Somerset Sports & Fitness (start and end)
Join Somerset Public Health for a fun run around Skowhegan. All proceeds to benefit the food cupboard. Lots of prizes! 

Skowhegan Lions Club Annual Chicken Barbecue

5-7 p.m., Municipal Parking Lot (pre-order and pick-up curbside)
Join the Skowhegan Lions Club for the annual Chicken Barbecue Dinner! Pre-order, pre-pay, and come and get it. $12.00 per meal. Each dinner includes one half barbecued chicken, coleslaw, chips, a roll and butter, bottled water, and a whoopie pie. When you purchase your meals online, you will get a ticket sent to you, just bring that ticket and get your meal. Pre-Order is not necessary but will guarantee you a dinner!

Moonlight Madness

Bed Races

Hosted by Skowhegan Parks & Rec, teams of five compete head to head in this madcap event by pushing beds on caster wheels down Water Street. See Parks & Rec for a registration form or register at Moonlight Madness until 6:30 p.m. For ages 14 and up.

Glow Stick River Run

8:30 p.m., Route 2 rest area east of downtown
Bring some glow sticks and your canoe or kayak for a visually compelling experience! Rec Center staff will lead this fun river paddle! Registration is not required, but please bring your own glow sticks and watercraft.

9a.m.- 3 p.m., Riverfront Greenspace (behind 151 Water Street by Walking Bridge)
Enjoy games by the river, including cornhole, Jenga, Connect 4, and Checkers.

Ducky (Inflatable Kayaks) & Raft Rides through the Gorge
11 a.m., Skowhegan Gorge
Join Main Street Skowhegan’s Skowhegan Outdoors Program for a float through the gorge on an inflatable kayak (called a ducky) or a raft. More details coming soon!

Middle Ground

Music from Middle Ground is always a crowd pleaser!

Dinner in the Park

5-10 p.m., Coburn Park
Enjoy a delightful outdoor dining experience and a sky lit up with fireworks in beloved Coburn Park. The evening will include a cocktail hour, locally sourced buffet dinner, live auction, live music, and fireworks over the river. Event hosted by Main Street Skowhegan. Proceeds to benefit Skowhegan revitalization projects. Tickets go on sale soon!

Kennebec on Fire Sculpture Lighting 

8 p.m,. Great Eddy
Skowhegan’s Kennebec on Fire installation — five metal sculptures with fire braziers — will be lit in the Great Eddy for the evening! Grab a seat at Coburn Park or at Philbrick Beach (located at the end of Joyce Street beyond the water treatment plant) for the best view!

Fireworks

9 p.m., Great Eddy
Fireworks will light up the night sky. View this spectacular River Fest culmination from downtown, the eddy, or the pedestrian bridge. If there is a downpour or severe weather,  the rain date will be Sunday, Aug. 7. Please check the Skowhegan River Fest Facebook page for updates.

River Bottom Funk Band
