The Saco Tree Lighting returns in 2026 (Friday, December 4th) as a cherished holiday tradition that brings the community together to celebrate the start of the festive season. Organized by Saco Main Street, this heartwarming annual event invites residents, families, and visitors to gather in downtown Saco for an evening filled with holiday cheer, music, and the magical moment when the city’s holiday tree is illuminated.
Typically held in early December at the Saco Transportation Center, the tree lighting is one of Saco’s holiday highlights and often coincides with other seasonal events, such as the Holiday Festival and the Parade of Lights. The short but memorable ceremony creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere as the community gathers to officially welcome the holiday season.
The event usually features festive activities, such as holiday caroling, often performed by local student groups, along with complimentary hot chocolate and seasonal treats from local sponsors. Families are encouraged to bundle up, enjoy the music, and take part in the countdown as the tree lights up downtown Saco with the glow of the season.
More than just a ceremony, the Saco Tree Lighting reflects the strong sense of community that defines downtown Saco. The event provides a chance for neighbors, local businesses, and visitors to come together in a spirit of celebration while supporting the ongoing revitalization of the downtown district. For many families, attending the tree lighting has become a yearly tradition and a meaningful way to start the holiday season.
Whether you come for the music, the festive atmosphere, or the simple joy of sharing a seasonal tradition with friends and family, the Saco Tree Lighting offers a memorable and festive experience. Mark your calendar, dress warmly, and join the Saco community as the holiday season officially begins with this beloved annual celebration.
