2nd Annual Belfast Winter Whoopla!

The Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce and organizations across the city are getting ready for the 2nd Annual Belfast Winter Whoopla – a 3 day event that offered a wide variety of outdoor and indoor activities, including an “Ice Ball” dinner & dance, Teen Night at the United Farmers Market, Chili Cook-Off and Corn Hole Tournament, and our Pancake Breakfast.

The purpose is simply to get people out and have some mid-winter fun!

  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. TEEN NIGHT: A chem-free event with Nerf battles, dance contests, music & refreshments at the United Farmers Market – Ages13 +. Sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank.
  • 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. ICE BALL: Dinner & Dance at Wentworth Event Center, East Belfast. Sponsored by Damariscotta Bank & Trust.

Event is 21+ ~ Baby sitting services are being arranged at the Library and Kids Unplugged.

  • MORNING? – WINTER TREE ID WALK with Coastal Mountain Land Trust at City Park. UMaine Professor of Plant Systematics Chris Campbell will guide us through the identification of common and uncommon trees found around Belfast.
  • All day – Ice Skating at the Belfast Ice Rink (High Street) hosted by the City of Belfast!
  • Snowshoeing & X-country Ski on the Rail Trail (Loaner snowshoes provided by the hospital’s Journey to Healthprogram)
  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. BELFAST BAY BIRDING with Coastal Mountains Land Trust. Scopes will be set up on the Belfast Commons adjacent to the Farmers Market.
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – KIDS ARTS & CRAFTS with Cornerspring Montessori School and Little River Church at United Farmers Market.
  • 12 p.m. FREE MOVIE “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at the Colonial Theater sponsored by Belfast Co-op!
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ADD SPARKLE TO YOUR SLED with Waterfall Arts on the Common.
  • 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. CORN HOLE TOURNAMENT & CHILI COOK-OFF. Entry Fee for contestants. $10 general admission fee for Chili tasters.   • 8 a.m. MORNING TEA HIKE with Coastal Mountains Land Trust. Join for a walk along the Rail Trail, sampling prepared teas from native trees starting at the Armistice Footbridge.
  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. PANCAKE BREAKFAST with Waldo County YMCA at the United Farmers Market sponsored by Down East Credit Union. $5.00 Adult/$4.00 Child
  • 12:00 p.m. FREE MOVIE “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at the Colonial Theater sponsored by the Belfast Co-op! 
  • 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. TEEN GAMES with Game Loft. Live Action Combat, Games, Jigsaw Puzzle Contest at the Boathouse.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. BANAGRAM CONTEST with Game Loft at The Boathouse.
  • 4 p.m. The movie “FREE SOLO” with Coastal Mountain Land Trust at the Colonial Theater!   Join CMLT as they raise funds and awareness for the Pendleton Stewardship Internship. $10.00 required donation.

Join us for a cabin-fever breaking weekend of snow and fun filled events for the whole family! We are working to finalize the schedule for 2019. Here’s what’s confirmed, but watch for more events to be added! The sledding hill is located on Adams Street, with other events occurring in other listed locations. Please watch for location updates as well.

Friday Feb. 1, 2019
6 PM – 7:30 PM: 
First Night, Adult Sledding Party!

Kick off WinterFest weekend with an adults-only sledding party on the Adams Street sledding hill at City Hall. Indulge your inner child (we’ll provide the sleds!) from 6 – 7:30 p.m. For sledders 21+, you will receive a silicone pint glass and $1 off your first beverage at any (or all) of the following locations:

This is the true “heart” of WinterFest! Come on out and enjoy the snow! Come on out for a FREE day of fun for families in the center of downtown!

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sledding (on Adams Street). Sleds provided!

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Snow Golf & Snowshoeing, provided by Biddeford Recreation Dept.

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Fat Bike demos with Community Bicycle Center

Noon – 2 p.m. Free pony rides!

Noon – 2:30 p.m. Take a ride in horse pulled wagon!

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Snow person building! If the weather permits, fill the park with snow people! Plus – Hill decorating! Decorate the sides of the sledding hill – drawing tools provided!

Also provided, delicious snacks, hot dogs, and cocoa! All for FREE – Wow!
